“Le polpette della discordia”: on the meat sounding debate
“Le polpette della discordia” — this is the title of Letizia Piotti’s article for Il Manifesto.
We quote: “UNIONE ITALIANA FOOD, a Confindustria association representing 550 companies in the food and beverage industry, has submitted an opinion to the EU Commission on the law, highlighting its shortcomings and calling for the removal of the provision banning meat sounding. According to Massimo Santinelli, creator, founder and owner of Biolab, one of the first Italian companies specialising in the production of organic plant-based foods, the Centinaio amendment risks ‘damaging many vegan food companies, with consequent negative impacts in terms of employment and supply chain. It instead favours other, more traditional product sectors, despite the fact that the vegan category has been objectively growing strongly for several years and demand for plant-based products is increasingly widespread among Italian consumers’.”
